THOMAS4 SHEPARD (Nathanie1,3 Jeremiah,2 Thomas1), baptized at Boston, Mass., 18 Sept. 1709, died there (before 22 Sept.) 1752; married first, (intention, Boston, 17 May 1738), Bethia Phipps of Brookline, Mass., probably baptized (not in infancy) at Portsmouth, N.H., 8 Apr. 1722, died before 1747, daughter of Thomas and Eleanor (Harvey) (Cutts) Phipps; married second, at Salem, Mass., 1 Oct. 1747, Susanna (Pike) Hood, born at Salem 22 Jan. 1718/19, died at Boston in 1759, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Pitman) (Ormes) Pike. Susanna Pike had married first, at Salem, 4 May 1738, Joseph Hood, who died "at Rhode Island" 7 Sept. 1745; and she married third, at Boston, 6 July 1756, John Wright of Georgetown , Essex Co., Mass.
The Boston Selectmen approved Thomas Shepard on Newbury Street for an innkeeper, 17 May 1738.
On 22 Sept. 1752, administration on the estate of Thomas Shepard of Boston, innholder, was granted to his widow Susannah, and she was appointed guardian of Mary, Nathaniel, Susannah, Samuel, and Thomas, children of the deceased under 14 years; and a week later she was appointed guardian of her son Jeremiah. On 28 Dec. 1759, Richard Pike of Salem, blacksmith, was made guardian of Mary, Susannah, and Jeremiah, children under 14 of Susannah Wright, late of Boston, deceased. Pike presented an inventory, 21 Jan. 1760, of goods set off to the three children. On 12 Dec. 1766, the Court issued a warrant to divide real estate of Thomas Shepard in Worcester County among his six children; the land, partly in Worcester and partly in Leicester, was set off to Benjamin Pierpont, he to pay the heirs, and there are receipts to him, 26 Nov. 1767, from Thomas and Nathaniel Shepard, and also, 9 Sept. 1768, from Richard Pike as guardian to Susannah, Mary, and Jeremiah. T 56 ii. Thomas, b. [say ca. 1742]; in. at Boston, 21 July 1763, Rebecca Ridgway, prob. the one b. at Boston 30 Sept. 1743, dau. of John and Elizabeth (De St. Croix) Ridgway. Nothing further found on this family except the births of two children at Boston:

T 57 iii. Samuel, b. [say ca. 1744]; possibly the Samuel who m. at Boston, 1 Feb. 1768, Elizabeth Woodard. Nothing further found on this family.
