Services for W. E. Cooper, M.D., who died Aug. 14 on Inspiration Point, Log Hill Village, in Ouray County, have been scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. from Ivy Chapel, Fairmount Mortuary in Denver. Montrose Valley Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
Because Dr. Cooper had moved from Denver to Montrose about three months ago to establish practice in the area of his chosen field, the family has suggested that contributions in his memory be made to the Montrose Memorial Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, 800 S. Third, Montrose, 81401.
Born January 25, 1930 in Colorado, Warren Edward Cooper was the son of Rolla and Medora Cooper, both now deceased. In preparation for his chosen profession in the field of medicine, he first attended Adams State College in Alamosa, where he majored in chemistry and biology. He received an M.D. degree June 5, 1959 from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver.
His internship was spent from July 1, 1959 to June 30, 1960 at General Rose Hospital in Denver. He received a fellowship in placental physiology from July 1, 1960 to June 30, 1961.
His residency in obstetrics and gynecology was served from July 1, 1961 to June 30, 1964 at Colorado General Hospital in Denver. His chief residency in his chosen field was spent at the University of Colorado Medical Center, Colorado General Hospital. He received his Specialty Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology Nov. 10, 1967.
On Dec. 17, 1976, Dr. Cooper was married in Denver to Athena P. (Penny) Chiames. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John Cooper, and one daughter, Perri Dando, both of Aurora.
From Jan. 1, 1965 to July 1, 1978, Dr. Cooper was assistant clinical professor in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at Colorado University School of Medicine and during this period also was engaged in private practice in Denver.
In July, 1978, Dr. Cooper entered the United States Air Force and served until July, 1981 as chief, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecolory, M.C. U.S. AF RAF at RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom. Other locations included Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, July 1981 to July 1982, and July 1982 to July 1985, U.S. AF Hospital, Misawa, Japan.
